I was born many years ago in a barn, well not exactly but that is what my mother used to tell me It was actually a temporary military hospital on Biggs AFB in El Paso that had, in fact, once been a barn I graduated from Austin High School in El Paso 17 and 3/4 years later I went to Atlanta, Georgia to Georgia Institute of Technology and became a rambling wreck from Georgia Tech and a heck of an engineer. I graduated 4 years later with a B.Ch.E (Bachelor of Chemical Engineering) and went to work for Mobil Oil Company as a Process Engineer. Several years later, the oilfield took a turn for the worst and I was laid off. A couple of years later, Mr. Nicholson, then Industrial High School principal, desperate for a science teacher (the previous teacher decided to leave a mere two weeks before school started), took a chance and hired me and the rest is, shall we say, history. It has been 33 going on 34 years since then.Over the years, I have taught nearly all the sciences offered at Industrial High School I am currently the National Honor Society sponsor, UIL Calculator Applications, Science, Lincoln Douglas Debate and Congress coach and UIL Coordinator, and, this year, Freshman class sponsor (Go Class of 2021, starting over).
I was married to Mr. B. G. Bennatt, Jr. who passed away in January 2005 (and yes, we were married, I have the marriage certificate and wedding pictures to prove it, even though we did not have the same last name--we were both liberated) and we have 3 lovely children. Molly is a graduate of the University of North Texas with a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism with an emphasis in Advertising. She is employed, once again (for anyone keeping up with the saga of my life), by Paychex and is a manager working out of her home in Dallas. She is married to an Industrial graduate, Ryan Dolejsi, who is a millwright and works long hours. They have a wonderful dog, named Brutus with the cutest underbite. Jared is a graduate of The University of Texas in Austin with a Bachelor of Science in Physics and of The University of Texas in San Antonio with a Master of Science in Computer Science. He is teaching at Edna Junior High School. He is married to the lovely Jamie Otto (also an Industrial graduate) who graduated from The Incarnate Word University with a BS in nursing and is employed at Citizens hospital as a labor and delivery nurse. They have three lovely children; Violet is 9 (fourth grade at IEW), Benjamin is 7 (second grade at IEW) and Jackson is 5 (kindergarten at IEW). Courtney is a graduate of TAMUCC with a BS in Health Sciences with a minor in business and is the Jackson County AgriLife FCS Extension agent. She is married to her high school sweetheart, Brandon Mercer who graduated from the Oklahoma equivalent of TSTC and is employed by Energy Transfer as a mechanic. They have three lovely children; Bennatt is 5, Miriam is 2 and Walker will be 1 in October. They live happily in Ganado, Brandon's hometown.
At home, 2 wonderful dogs, only one of which is actually mine, many birds, 10 cats of which 7 are mine (yes, this qualifies me for the crazy, possibly creepy cat lady club however I'm not the only Industrial teacher I know in this club);1 horse; 8 cows and 1 bull await me every night when I go home so, no, I am not lonely.
