Hello! My name is Veronica McManus and it is really wonderful to be here at Industrial High School. This is my 13th year at Industrial ISD and I know it will be a super year for all.
As far as my background is concerned, I was born in San Jose, California, but have lived in many places including a foreign country as a young girl. I had the unique opportunity of moving to and living in Nicaragua from the time I was in the 3rd grade until I was a sophomore in high school. Because of my parent's job and their passion for exploring and traveling the world, my siblings and I were fortunate to travel to Mexico, Central America, and South America, and a great part of the United States. As a result of living abroad, I am a fluent Spanish speaker. Yes, I read, write, speak and even dream in Spanish!
So how did I end up in Texas? Well, after I came back to the United States, I moved to Louise, Texas where I graduated from Louise High School. I attended college, but married during my college years and began having children and left college to raise them. From a previous marriage, I have two grown boys named John Chromcak, age 32, who recently served in the U.S. Marine Corps as a Airport Crash/Crew Firefighter and who now works as a firefighter for the Department of Defense and Cory Chromcak, age 28, who works as a diesel mechanic in Victoria, Texas.
After working in the private sector for many years, I returned to college and received a B.A. in Spanish from the University of Houston-main campus, and later a Masters of Education in Administration from the University of Houston-Victoria in 2003.
This year I will be teaching Spanish I & II and coaching the UIL Spelling team at Industrial High School, who were the 2009 & 2010 UIL State Champions. Prior to the 2005-2006 school year, I taught at Palacios High School for 8 years where many of my teaching duties included teaching Spanish I, II, Pre-AP, and AP Spanish. I also was one of the Academic Decathlon coaches and was fortunate to experience going to State competition several years in a row.
I am currently married to a wonderful man named Steve McManus, who is an attorney in Victoria, Texas. We have many common interests and during our down time, you can find us either fishing, hunting, traveling or reading a great book.
Wishing you a great school year!!
