    Math Syllabus 6th, 7th and 8th Grade

                                                                

     
     
    Course Description- The students will be responsible for learning math skills that will assist them with the April 2015 Staar or Staar Accommodated Exams.

     * These grades will be responsible for taking the following Staar exams:

                       6th Grade- Reading and Math Exam

                       7th Grade- Reading, Math, and Writing Exam

                       8th Grade- Reading, Math, Science, and Social Studies Exam

     

    Materials-  The students will be responsible for bringing to class a pencil and a spiral for their daily oral math each day.

     

    Grading System- Daily grades and quiz grades will count 40%.

                                  Test grades will count 60%.

    Classroom Rules-

     

    1. Be seated and on time with required materials.
    2. Raise your hand before responding to a question.
    3. Do not get out of your seat without asking for permission.
    4. No talking without permission.
    5. Be respectful to all classmates, yourself, and the teacher at all times.
    6. Follow the District Student Handbook at all times.

     

    Consequences-

     

    1.      Verbal warning and redirection.

    2.      Private discussion with the student.

    3.      Teacher designated consequence such as lunch ISS or after school detention.

    4.      Teacher will notify the parent.

    5.      The student will receive an office referral.

    *Any severe disruptions will result in immediate removal from the classroom and a referral to the office. These include, but are not limited to fighting, profanity, and disregard for authority.

                                   English  Syllabus – 6th, 7th and 8th grade

     

     

    Course Description- The students will be responsible for learning Reading and Writing skills that will assist them with the April 2015 Staar or Staar Accommodated Exams.
     
     
    April Staar Exams- 
     
    Sixth grade- The students will be responsible for taking a reading and math Staar test this year. 
     
    Seventh grade- The seventh grade students will be responsible for taking a reading, math, and writing test this year. They will be prepared to take three types of writing exams which include: narrative, persuasive, and informational writing. They will be asked, at random, to complete two out of three written compositions learned in class on two separate days as well as complete a multiple choice, revising, and editing part of the test.
     
    Eighth grade- The students will be completing a reading, math, science, and social studies exam this year. 

     

    Materials 
    - Each student should bring one spiral or composition book for their writing assignments to class each day. They will also be responsible for bringing their Accelerated Reader books to class on a daily basis.

     

    Accelerated Readers-   
    Each student is responsible for receiving 5 Accelerated Reader points each accelerated reading period. The students should be reading in their accelerated reading books each night for a minimum of 20 minutes.Sometimes the students have extra time to read during their study skills  periods, but the majority of the time they are working on other subject areas in order to complete their homework and are unable to read during the school day. Please see that your child is taking advantage of our reading program at home and school.

     

     
     

     Spelling- The students will practice their spelling words each day in class to prepare for a test on Friday. They will complete activities to help them learn their words Monday through Thursday and will be required to complete a graded test each Friday. Each child will receive a spelling list according to their grade level to take home and practice each night. They will receive the list on Monday and may begin practicing the words at home at that time. 
     
    Daily Oral Language- The students will complete grammar activities each day of the week and take a DOL test each Friday. Student engagement in these activities is important to perform well on weekly tests and help them to prepare for their Staar writing exams.
