The 2017-18 school year marks my 15th year as an educator—nine of those years have been at Industrial. I started my career at Industrial, left to grow and learn, and now I am back where it all began. There is no place like home! During the past 14 years, I have had the privilege of working with students and teachers through many different career roles. I have taught all levels of students, teachers, and administrators in some capacity. I have been a classroom teacher of grade levels 6-12, served as a high school assistant principal, served as a K-12 language arts specialist for Region 3 ESC, and also served as the state assessment coordinator for our region. During my time as a K-12 ELAR specialist, I had the privilege of meeting and learning from some of the most influential ELAR specialists/authors in the nation—Jeff Anderson, Kelly Gallagher, Penny Kittle, Gretchen Bernabei, Kylene Beers, Robert Probst, Steve Graham, and Ralph Fletcher just to name a few. We will be practicing and implementing many of their research based strategies in our studies.
While many of my former career roles were rewarding and fulfilling, my most treasured years in education have always been in the classroom with students. I am memorized by the power of rhetoric and language arts. When one knows how to effectively communicate themselves with one another the opportunities are endless. I hope to instill a passion for English language arts and reading with all of my students. Knowledge is power, and there is nothing more fulfilling than helping students strengthen their skills and expand their horizon.
I live in Lolita with my husband Wesley and two sons, Tanner and Cullen. Tanner is in 7th grade, and Cullen is in 4th grade. Both boys enjoy basketball, baseball, swimming, and archery. When we aren’t at a game, practice, or archery meet, we enjoy spending our time outdoors, fishing, camping, off-road trail riding, or cooking. We cook really good barbeque! When the boys aren’t running with their extracurricular activities, we travel the competition BBQ circuit and complete against some of the best in the state. From time to time we even get a little lucky and win a few $$$ for our secret recipe brisket, ribs, and chicken.
As a parent, I want the best possible learning experience for my children, and I plan to address your child’s learning in my classroom as if he/she were my own. If at any time, you would like to discuss your expectations, questions, wishes, goals, and/or concerns for your child’s learning, please don’t hesitate to contact me. Together, we can help him/her be successful. It’s going to be a great year, and I am excited to be working with you and your children!
