Cheryl, daughter of Jonathan and Serelda Sappington, has been a Cobra all her life. She started her education at Vanderbilt Elementary School and graduated as valedictorian of Industrial High School in 1981. As a Cobra she was a leader in both band and athletics, but always considered academics her number one priority. Continuing her education at the University of Texas at Austin, she was a member of the Longhorn Band where she played piccolo and flute. In May 1985, she graduated with High Honors with a B.S. in Secondary Education with majors in physical science and mathematics. She continued her studies at the University of Texas and graduated with Honors with a B.A. in Mathematics in December 1986. Cheryl completed her Master of Arts Degree with majors in mathematics and computer science in the summer of 2000 graduating from the University of Houston Victoria with a 4.0 GPA.
She became employed by the Freer ISD in the fall of 1986, and worked there for four years before taking a teaching position at Freeport Intermediate School. After staying at Freeport for two years, Cheryl accepted a teaching position at Palacios High School where she taught for six years. In the fall of 1998 it was time to return to Industrial High School. While at Industrial, Cheryl has taught mathematics, computer science, and science, directed the Accelerated Learning Lab, and served as UIL Coordinator. She is currently teaching Mathematical Models with Applications, Pre AP Geometry, Pre AP Algebra II, and Pre AP Pre-Calculus. Along with these responsibilities she is presently a sponsor of the Sophomore class, and will coach UIL Mathematics.
Cheryl is married to Mike and they have a daughter, Kayla, who is a student athlete at the University of Houston Main Campus where she plays Houston Cougar volleyball and has maintained the Dean's List.
