Mrs. VanPelt's Bio
Hello everyone! My name is Shelly VanPelt, and I am very excited for the 2018-2019 school year!. I grew up in Vanderbilt, and Industrial is very dear to my heart. I attended Vanderbilt Elementary (now IEE), Industrial Junior High, and graduated from Industrial High School in 1987. I received my elementary education degree from the University of Houston-Victoria in December of 1990.
I come from a family of educators. My mom taught for 32 years, and 25 of those years were spent in Industrial I.S.D. My dad spent 36 years in education, and 29 of those years were in Industrial I.S.D. Industrial is a very important part of my life......once a Cobra......ALWAYS a Cobra!I began my teaching career in Victoria I.S.D. in 1991. While in VISD, I taught first and second grade at Dudley Elementary for 11 years, and 4th grade for 7 years at DeLeon Elementary. I was excited when I had the opportunity to join the Industrial family as an educator! I'm beginning my tenth year teaching 5th grade at IEE! This will be my 28th year of being an educator, which is something that I am very proud of. One of my proudest moments as an educator is being awarded IEE Teacher of the Year and Industrial Elementary Teacher of the year in 2011.I am married to Clay VanPelt. We have been married for 27 years and we live in Inez. My husband is a partner in an accounting firm in Victoria. Clay and I have two wonderful children. Our daughter Kelsey is beginning her third year at the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor (UMHB) and is majoring in pre-physical therapy. She will graduate with her bachelor's degree in pre-physical therapy in the Fall of 2019! After finishing her bachelor's degree, she plans on attending PT school to earn her Doctorate in Physical Therapy. Kelsey played basketball for UMHB for two years and this year she is in charge of the strength and condition program for the Women's Basketball Team. Go Cru!Our son Karson, is an eigth grader at Industrial Junior High and is looking forward to an exciting school year! He is super excited for football season to start. In addition to football, Karson also plays basketball, golf, and runs track. His extra-curricular activites keep us very busy, but we wouldn't have it any other way! We are looking forward to enjoying his last year in junior high.My family is very important to me, and I truly value our time together!
I want to thank you for sharing your child with me this year. I look forward to watching my students learn and grow throughout the school year. It's going to be a fun and exciting year in 5th grade!
