Mr. Houston Cummings

Houston Cummings is in his fifth year as Director of Bands at Industrial High School.   His responsibilities include coordination of all aspects of the Band program at Industrial Independent School District.  His instructional duties with the Golden Cobra Band include directing the Concert Band, Percussion class, Marching Band and assisting at the junior high.  Mr. Cummings graduated from O. Perry Walker High School in New Orleans, Louisiana and holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Instrumental Music Education from Louisiana Tech University. 

Mr. Cummings has taught for thirty-two years at every level of the public schools.  Before coming to Industrial ISD, he was Director of Bands at the following schools: Haughton High School (Haughton, LA.), De Queen Public Schools (De Queen, AR.), Norphlet Public Schools (Norphlet, AR.), El Dorado Public Schools (El Dorado, AR.), Edna ISD (Edna, TX), and Rice Consolidated ISD (Altair, TX).  Louisiana Tech University named Mr. Cummings the “Bandmaster of the Year” in 1996. 

His professional affiliations include the Association of Texas Small School Bands, Texas Music Educators Association, Texas Bandmasters Association, and Phi Beta Mu.

Mr. Cummings has been married to Lucinda for thirty-two years and they have three daughters and five grandchildren.  Mrs. Cummings is the Golden Cobra Color Guard Director and the Fine Arts Teacher at Industrial Elementary East.
