I am so excited to have your child in my class!  I look forward to all of us having a great school year!  Here is some information that you may find useful as we begin our journey together:

    I believe that a good parent-teacher relationship is necessary for maximum school success.  Throughout the year I will communicate with you through notes, phone calls, e-mails and parent teacher conferences.  I encourage you to contact me if you have any questions or concerns at any time.  You can call me at the school, 361-284-3317.  I am available for conferences regarding your child’s progress or any concerns during conference period 9:30 - 10:30 and from 3:30 – 4:00 by appointment on school days.  If you are unable to make it during these times just let me know and I will work with you.

    Your child’s regular and prompt attendance at school is crucial to his/her success.  Most Kindergarten learning activities are group oriented and involve interaction with classmates.  Therefore, it is next to impossible to make up most of the work at home.  Please view school as a priority, and see to it that your child attends every day except in cases of illness or emergency.  If your child is absent be sure to write why your child was absent on the paper provided in the colored daily folder.

    Our school day is from 8:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.  If your child arrives at school before 7:55 a.m., they need to report to the hallway by the cafeteria where they will be monitored.  If your child is late (after 8:00 a.m.) they will need to be signed in at the office.

    Students who are being picked up after school will be walked to the front of the school at 3:30 p.m.  You may stay in your car and drive through.  If you are picking your child up in the building please wait by the office and be sure to park out on the road.

    Bus riders will be walked to the appropriate buses in the back of the school.  Those students who walk to the high school will be walked over by a teacher.

    **If you need to pick up your child during the school day, you must sign him/her out in the office.  Someone will call your child to come to the office.  If you know in advance that you will be picking up your child please send a written note so your child will be prepared and will have needed materials.

    All students are supervised from 7:45 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

    If you plan to pick up a child that normally rides the bus or you wish for your child to ride a bus, you MUST send a written note with the details of the pick-up, or CALL the office before 3pm.  Please do not rely on your child to tell me this information, because children often become confused and relay messages incorrectly.  If no written note is received, your child will be sent home by his/her usual method of transportation.  Please put this note in the daily colored folder, as I will be checking them every morning.

    On occasion it will be necessary for your child to bring money to school.  Always send money in a sealed envelope with the following information on it:

    *  Child’s first and last name

    *  Amount of money enclosed

    *  Purpose of the money (book order, party money, lunch money, milk money, etc.)

    If you will always put in the left side of the colored daily folder I will be sure to get it.  I do not go through backpacks and the children forget to get it out.

    Kindergarten students will have a small snack and juice provided by the cafeteria every afternoon.

    The communication sheet in the colored daily folder your child will bring home needs to be signed each day and returned the next day.  If your child misses a day of school, write the excuse on the left side of the folder.  Any notes or money that you send needs to be put in this folder as well.   I will be going through it every morning.  The right side of the folder will contain work that we went over in school.  Look over the papers with your child.  If your child has any homework it will be on the right side so be sure to check it.  Your child’s daily conduct will also be recorded in this folder.
