Sick Child?
Sick Emojis

We feel very strongly at Industrial ISD that good attendance is extremely important to your child’s success at school! They must be here to learn. There are also important health reasons for keeping your child home from school, so here are some guidelines to consider.

1. Does your child’s illness keep him/her from comfortably taking part in activities?

2. Does your sick child need more care than the staff can give without affecting the health and safety of other children?

3. Could other children get sick from being near your child?

If the answer to any of these questions is “Yes,” please keep your child out of school. If your child does not feel generally "well" or is not acting like themselves, or is not able to participate in regular daily activities comfortably, it is in their best interest to stay home.

FEVER

If your child has a temperature of 100.0*F or higher, please do not send them to school. They must be fever-free for 24 hours WITHOUT the use of fever-reducing medications such as Tylenol (acetaminophen) or Motrin (ibuprofen).

VOMITING/DIARRHEA

If your child has 2+ vomiting/diarrhea episodes within 24 hours, they should not attend school. They should be free from vomiting or diarrhea without the use of medications for 24 hours before returning to school.

If your child is exhibiting any symptoms of COVID-19, please DO NOT send your child to school. Contact the appropriate campus nurse instead.

SORE THROAT

If your child is complaining of a sore throat, has a reddened throat, or has swollen tonsils, especially with white patches, please do not send them to school. If your child needs cough drops, you will need to provide them.

RASHES

If your child has a rash of undetermined nature, it is accompanied with fever, draining fluid or pus, behavioral changes, or other symptoms should not be at school.

RED EYES

If our child's eyes are reddened, especially if there is also draining or crusting around the eye, it is possible your child has conjunctivitis (aka Pink Eye). Your child should remain out of school until we receive a note from the doctor stating it is not contagious, or until the redness and drainage are completely gone.

Kids who are truly sick will heal better and faster when they have proper rest at home, with lots of fluid for hydration and healthy nutrition.  We will always do our best to help you make a good decision based on our experience and knowledge as nurses, after considering the potential for spreading infections at school and what is in all the children’s best interests. We have common goals with you- the health, safety, and school success of your child!
